Responsibilities
Description: This position is a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, responsible for assisting the Registered/Licensed Dietitian with the provision of Medical Nutrition Therapy through nutrition screening, education, and assessment. This position assures smooth interdepartmental operations through supervision of Diet Technician I, and indirect supervision of Food Service Supervisors, Diet Clerks, and Diet Aides, to assure menu processing and order translation. Promotes optimal guest, patient, and interdepartmental staff relations.
Typical Duties:
-Assists Clinical Dietitians in provision of appropriate nutrition care for patients. Screens patients and document in the medical chart. Educates/counsels patients per protocol.
-Assures smooth operation of Diet Office
-Calculates quantities of tube and supplemental feedings for patients and writes appropriate directions for mixing/sending feedings.
-Collaborates with Food Services to ensure patient nutrition needs are met. Monitors menu selection and tray delivery processes with quality control mechanisms.
-Communicates with Allied Health Care personnel and physicians regarding appropriateness of the patient's prescription in relation to the diagnosis, initiating changes when necessary.
-Develop teach patient-nutrition related classes.
-Participates in facilitation and leadership of medical nutrition and discharge planning meetings and committees.
-Plans, calculates, and writes therapeutic diet menus for patients using dietary history, preferences, and/or tolerances and according to established guidelines.
-Trains, counsels, and evaluates Diet Clerk Supervisor. Recommends hiring and firing of Diet Clerk Supervisor.
-Utilizes goals, continuous improvement, and quality improvement as the methodology for process and customer service improvement.

-Plans, calculates, and writes therapeutic diet menus for patients using diet history, preferences, and/or tolerances according to established guidelines.
-Prepares color coded diet order label cards for all patients and arranges by room number and station; delivers cards to patient tray line personnel at the beginning of each meal. Compiles food cart tally sheets.
-Prepares reports and floor stock charges. Maintains files in the diet office.
-Responsible for complying with standard precautions when there is a risk of exposure.
-Screen diet orders to inform the Clinical Dietitians and/or Dietetic Technician's Coordinators of appropriate changes and progressions. May prepare special diet menu under the direction of the Clinical Dietitian.
-Transcribes physicians' orders, translates to correct patient menu and assists with patient surveys.
-Utilizes computer (hospital system, Word, Excel, etc.) to complete daily activities and tasks.
